ANXIETY

Everyone experiences anxiety from time to time and a certain level of anxiety can be quite useful. However, anxiety can become problematic if it is triggered too frequently, is overwhelming or interferes with your daily life. 


Using CBT in conjunction with hypnotherapy can help to break this cycle of thinking and helps you take control over your thoughts, feelings and behaviours.

PREGNANCY / HYPNOBIRTHING

I am committed to empowering women and their birth partners to create a positive birth experience and support in pregnancy and beyond. 


Over the four sessions, we meet, I will teach you a variety of skills and techniques to support you with a natural childbirth. This includes learning self-hypnosis, breathing and visualisation techniques, tips for reducing anxiety and ways to create the right environment. The techniques you will learn can be used not only for childbirth but life in general.

ADDICTION

Hypnotherapy is an evidence-based treatment for addiction. Managing an addiction (eg smoking, nail-biting, bruxism) can be incredibly hard, affecting all areas of your life, including work, relationships and both your mental and physical health. 


Habit reversal is one of the most effective treatment for habits. I will also teach you self-hypnosis techniques which will allow you to continue the work and to support yourself after the sessions are over. Self-hypnosis techniques reinforce the work you've done with me in sessions, thus giving you a greater chance of long term success. 

PAIN MANAGEMENT

Chronic pain is usually described as pain that persists beyond the normal time that tissues take to heal following an injury. 


The research findings published on the NCBI (info) analysed the use of hypnosis for the treatment of chronic pain. It indicates that hypnosis interventions consistently produced significant decreases in pain associated with a variety of chronic-pain problems. 


 The experience of pain is felt in the brain rather than from the source. Hypnotherapy can help to change the perception of pain whether you are suffering from arthritis, a sore back, muscle tension or other chronic pain disorders. 

PHOBIAS

Some people develop fears that seem quite irrational, disproportionate and in some cases, can be debilitating. If you have a phobia you may change your behaviour to avoid situations or the things you fear, and this can reinforce the fear. 


Hypnotherapy can provide extremely effective help for fears and phobias. I mainly use evidence-based behavioural methods such as imaginal exposure and systematic desensitisation techniques combined with hypnosis for enhanced effectiveness.

STRESS & RESILIENCE

By working together 121 or in a group workshop format, I can prepare you for adversity by finding healthier ways of responding to stressful thoughts and feelings. 


You will learn a comprehensive toolkit of effective therapeutic strategies and techniques, drawing upon innovative "mindfulness and acceptance-based" approaches to cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT), combined with elements of established psychological approaches to stress prevention and management. 


 It's possible to build long-term resilience by developing psychological flexibility using these techniques.

Finding the Right Therapist For You

It’s imperative that you find a Hypnotherapist that is right for you, someone that you connect with.  In the UK Hypnotherapy is not regulated by law, which means the quality of hypnotherapy on offer varies hugely. When you are choosing a hypnotherapist please make sure you look into the type of hypnotherapy they are providing, their qualifications, approach and scientific research that substantiates the long term results. I appreciate that it's a minefield out there, so hopefully, the summary below will help you run through the gauntlet of swinging pocket-watches, smoke and mirrors…


My objective is to empower you to begin creating the life you desire. In our sessions, I won't be waving a magic wand or granting you three wishes. Instead, I will teach you the skills to put yourself into hypnosis, with a particular goal in mind. It's a collaborative working style and I fully support the approach of delivering self-efficacy to achieve the best outcome. You should not feel dependant on me or our sessions. Instead after our first set of sessions, I aim to equip you with the knowledge and techniques to make those positive changes and maintain them. I will offer support throughout, not just when we have time together, but also in between sessions and following.


I follow an evidence-based approach, thus I tend to employ techniques that are based on scientific research rather than anecdotal evidence or gut feeling. Please be wary of hypnotherapists that guarantee results after just one session. 


I believe in working in the present to shape your future. My approach to Hypnotherapy does not involve delving into your past to find the answers to your current situation, nor involve extensive analysis or psychoanalysis of the past events. Of course, the past is relevant to you, but not necessary for me to know to provide treatment. I believe that in some cases,  reliving past events repeatedly may become unnecessarily traumatic.


Hypnotherapy is a complementary, not an alternative therapy. not an alternative therapy. I use hypnosis with a combination of techniques ranging from Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapy, Mindfulness, Problem Solving Therapy, Assertiveness Training and other modalities to reduce and alleviate a broad range of presenting issues.

NOT IN LONDON?

Remote sessions are also available via Skype or Zoom to those unable to attend my practice in person or prefer working this way. 

NUMBER OF SESSIONS

This depends on the nature of your situation and the expected duration will be discussed during the consultation. Hypnotherapy is probably one of the briefest forms of psychological approaches, the typical course of treatment is 4 - 6 sessions.  We can discuss this further when you contact me.
